Summer is a very good time to inspect your GARN® WHS installation and complete any maintenance that may be required. It is also a good time to re-confirm that your unit is installed correctly. Correct installation and proper maintenance enhance safety and ensure long life for your GARN® WHS unit.
Listed below are some of the things you should check on your GARN® WHS Unit yearly:
- Is the Flue Discharge Elbow Spark Arrestor Screen in place, secure, clean and in good
condition? - If a Barrel is utilized, is it due for cleaning or replacement? Is the Barrel in proper position?
- Check to ensure the Flue has been installed correctly.
- Is the Flue clean?
- Have all of the Flue Joints remained sealed?
- Is the area within a 20’ radius of the Horizontal Discharge free of combustible materials,
including: dry grass, trees, leaves, paper, etc?⇒ Refer to Section D of the Installation Manual for installation specifics. - Is the GARN® WHS Unit installed in compliance with the clearances listed on the WH label? NOTE: The label is located on the Blower Housing Lower Flange.
- Are the Clean-Out Cover Gaskets, Door Gasket and Reaction Chamber in good shape?
- Are the Clean-Out Cover Plate Nuts tight?
- Refer to Section C of the Operation and Maintenance Manual for specifics.
- Check your GARN® WHS Unit for correct water level and proper chemical balance in the water yearly. If you have not checked your GARN® WHS Unit’s water, check it now to ensure proper operation of your unit.

- Has accumulated dust in the Induced Draft Motor windings been “blown out” by compressed
air? - Check to ensure the Anode Rod in good condition, or is it “gone”?
