Below grade piping -supply and return water piping between the GARN unit and the buildings that are heated can be provided in two forms: preinsulated and site insulated.

DECTRA recommends and provides the MicroFlex® brand of pre-insulated below grade piping. MicroFlex utilizes oxygen barriered natural UV PEX-A tubing encased within a closed cell insulation that in turn is encased within a corrugated HDPE jacket (www.comfortprosystems.com). This product has extremely low heat loss, is manufactured in either single tube or dual tube configurations, and is available with a full line of accessories (caps, risers, fittings, sleeves, chambers, etc). This is the preferred product for systems in which energy efficiency is of prime importance.

DECTRA can provide all of the items required for low cost site insulated piping systems. These items include: ComfortPro oxygen barriered natural UV PEX-A tubing in sizes ranging from ¾" to 3" and closed cell thick wall slide-on insulation manufactured specifically for below grade installation. The insulation is slid onto the PEX tubing, joints are taped and the resulting assembly is slid into a water tight non-perforated, corrugated HDPE outer jacket. The assembly is then buried within a sand bed at frost bed depth. DECTRA has very successfully utilized this method since 1985. For residential and small commercial projects it is low cost, energy efficient and easy for an individual to accomplish on site.
